A Texas woman who was just following her normal routine was brutally killed.

According to a report from CNN, a Plano woman was murdered during her morning run on Saturday, August 1. Sarmistha Sen, 43, was a scientist and mother of two children, ages 12 and 6, along with a 3 month old puppy.

Sarmistha was originally born in Sindri, India and later moved to Bangalore for a better education and job. In 2004, Sarmistha was married and moved to Plano, Texas where she worked on cancer research.

Sarmistha practiced healthy living and ran the Chisolm trail every morning. On Saturday, Sen woke up early for her morning run, but never returned home. Just two hours after she left home, Sen's body was found near the creek.

"Sarmistha lived a free and fearless life inspiring many with her infectious energy and carefree smile," the family wrote on CaringBridge.

Authorities are investigating Sen's death, and are currently holding a person of interest, who was arrested for burglary near the same area.

Locals in the community are leaving pairs of running shoes near the area where she was killed as symbol of their condolences.

If you would like to donate or express your sympathy you can visit Caring Bridge. The family has setup a GoFundMe page that can be accessed from the CaringBridge website. The funds will be used for charities that are devoted to issues that Sarmistha deeply cared about such as cancer awareness, cancer research, and protection of the environment.
