In case you forgot that The Dark Tower is actually opening this summer, Sony finally decided to participate in the movie marketing machine. After seeing close to nothing promoting the film, first trailer finally dropped last month, a mere three months out from its release in August. And over the weekend, some more new footage debuted in three TV spots.

Harmony Korine’s been laying fairly low since his last feature, 2013’s neon-hued crime rave Spring Breakers. Word on the street is that his next feature should be ready for the public’s eyeballs sometime this year, with the announced title of The Trap and a tantalizing cast including Al Pacino, Benicio del Toro, Robert Pattinson, and previous muse Gucci Mane. But even as he prepares to once again loose the mayhem that is a new Korine movie on the world, the director has begun to shore up plans for his next next feature. And today brings the news that he’s landed an all-too-appropriate star for the gestating project.

The McConaissance is still upon us, and Matthew McConaughey is in high demand. He almost had a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but instead opted for the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. With the Guardians sequel poised to rake in the billions, why take a chance on a franchise-starter that might not have the same box office heft? McConaughey explained that he chose it for just that reason, and because he didn’t want to join a franchise as an afterthought.

You know that Matthew McConaughey’s big breakthrough as an actor was as Wooderson in Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused. But did you know Wooderson was originally intended as a very small part? After Linklater cast McConaughey in the role (after he grew a mustache and longer hair to prove he wasn’t too handsome for the part), and the actor repeatedly impressed the director with his improvisations and comedy, he beefed up Wooderson’s screen time considerably.
