Reports of 2 Dead, 1 Wounded in Shooting at Texas A&M Commerce

UPDATE: At a press conference Monday afternoon, TAMU Commerce police confirmed that two women were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a room at Pride Rock Residence Hall, and that an injured toddler also found in the room has been hospitalized.

Police were called to the scene around 10:17 AM, and the campus was placed on lockdown as students and staff were advised to shelter in place. The shelter in place order was later lifted, and it does not appear that the shooter targeted anyone else. Police have not commented on whether they have a suspect, who that may be, or what their motive may have been.

Police did not reveal the identities of the two women, nor did they answer when a journalist present at Monday afternoon's press conference asked if the two women were students.

There's been no word on the child's condition.

Students and faculty were being asked to shelter in place at a northeast Texas college campus Monday afternoon after reports of gunshot victims in a residence hall.

In a series of Twitter posts, officials at Texas A&M Commerce in Commerce, Texas said police were investigating three gunshot victims found in the campus' Pride Rock Residence Hall. Classes were cancelled for the remainder of the day, and a shelter in place order had been issued.

Multiple news outlets including KXAS-TV, WFAA-TV, and the Dallas Morning News report that two of the gunshot victims are dead, and that the third had been hospitalized. There was no word on the third victim's condition.

There's been no word on a suspect or motive, nor are there currently any reports of an active shooter.

Nearby Campbell ISD campuses were also on lockdown, not allowing visitors to enter or students to leave.
