Anyone with overdue books at the Killeen Public Library can get fines waived if they donate food items.

If you have an overdue book or other library materials, then can be returned through June 27 at the Main Library located at 205 East Church Ave., or you can drop them off at the Copper Mountain Branch at 3000 South W S Young.

Hours of operation for the libraries are Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to News 10, fines that are overdue will be forgiven if you make a donation of these types of food items:

  • A bag of rice
  • A bag of dried beans
  • A bag of dried pasta
  • Dry cereal
  • Boxed granola bars
  • Pedigree, Purina Or Kibbles ‘n Bits dry dog food
  • Friskies, Meow Mix, 9 lives or Purina dry cat food
  • Dawn dish soap

The Killeen Food Care Center and Killeen Animal Shelter will receive the donated items.

So, if you have an overdue book at the Killeen Library, now's a great time to take them back and help out some good causes here in Central Texas.
