Preply, a language learning platform specializing in conversational English lessons and online Spanish classes, surveyed over 1,500 residents of 30 major U.S. cities to determine which cities swear the most.

Residents were asked how often they swear, the situations they swear in the most, and even the age they said their first swear word! The results, will f!@#ing shock you!

They found that on average, people swear 21 times a day- and younger generations are more likely to swear averaging out at 24 times. But what Texas cities made the top ten?

As you can see, Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin didn't come close to Columbus, Ohio which is now dubbed the major U.S. city that swears the most!

The Texas cities average between 21 and 25 swear words a day, which I guess doesn't seem too bad!

Alternatively, they also found the cities that swear the least and I have to say that I am shocked to see my hometown on that list!

El Paso, Texas only swears on average 17 times a day? I think that some of us are not being totally honest! I kid, but good on us for coming in as one of the major cities that swears the least- along with Houston and San Antonio.

Other key findings include:

  • The average age Americans start using swear words is 11.
  • “Taboo” situations Americans are most likely to swear in include work (69%), in front of strangers (67%), and at the dinner table (63%).
  • Over half of Americans use swear word substitutions — favorites include “fudge,” “shoot” and “frick.”
