No matter the business decisions of the top tier executives, nobody likes to see a business that has been around for 40 years just vanish overnight with the closing of 700 stores, but that is pretty much what is happening.

With 88 Party City stores within Texas, this total closure is going to have an impact on just about every small to midsize city in addition to the major metros. Towns like Killeen, Temple, Round Rock, and Waco are also losing their hometown locations too.

According to this Austin American-Statesmen article, the company had only just emerged from a previous bankruptcy in September of 2023, so this second filing is incredibly rare and quickly forced for any company. Some employees were not even given notice, just told on Friday, December 20th that there was no more job, benefits, or severance.

Some stores shuttered almost immediately, but if you are trying to take advantage of going out of business sales, I would recommend calling ahead to verify a location is still operating because none will remain in very short time.
