In the fall of 2024, Texas A&M had more than 6,000 international students enrolled from over 130 different countries. Now 15 of those students have had their ability to remain in the country legally revoked by the U.S. government.

Lack of Official Explanation for Visa Revocations

There has not been any official reason given as to why the students visas were revoked. Once their visas are denied, the students are no longer allowed to re-enter or work in the United States of America, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents may then conduct investigations to ensure that they have left the country. Per the website of the Department of Homeland Security, the students may attempt to apply for reinstatement

"Catch and Revoke" Program Targets International Students

These fifteen students are just a fraction of the total number of international students who's live are being affected by the new policies being enforced by the Trump administration. According to Axios.com, there have been more than 300 students that have had their student visas revoked. The students are being targeted through a program known as "Catch and Revoke".

Secretary Rubio's "Catch and Revoke" Program Explained

The Catch and Revoke program is the brainchild of Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. 1.5 million students in the United States are visa-holders, and of those 1.5 million students, any that are "pro-Hamas" are at risk of having their visas revoked.

ICE Oversight of International Student Visas

ICE has a system in place known as the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. This system allowed learning facilities to be certified to accept students visa-holders. ICE has revoked sone institutions certifications if they found evidence that any of the student-visa holders were conning the education system so that they could live and work in the United States.
