Floundering Texas Rep. Makes Shocking Implication Or Just Genuine Misunderstanding
Have you ever not been completely truthful on a resume or in an interview to help yourself get a job? Maybe you exaggerated your proficiency with photoshop, or perhaps you said that you can type 90 WPM instead of 70 WPM. I think that we have all said a few little white lies to get an advantage, but what State Representative Caroline Harris Davila did this past weekend seems a little worse.
In the latest campaign ad from State Representative Caroline Harris Davila, the message is that she wants to protect our kids. The campaign video ends with Representative Harris Davila in a family setting under a tree with her husband and four children. Here's what confused some people that knew a thing or two (or four) about Harris Davila. She and her husband of just over a year have not had a child yet let alone four children. Also, neither Harris Davila nor her husband have children from any previous relationships.
In my opinion, it is clear that the campaign add was intentionally misleading. As the republican candidate it appears that she is trying to appeal to conservative voters' tendency to be drawn towards candidates with common family values. In the final shot her husband rests his hand on the shoulder of the middle son and Harris Davila picks up the youngest boy in a motherly embrace. The scene is a beautiful portrayal of a Hallmark family even if each member of the family was handpicked from different families
Wanting to pass bills to protect children is not a bad policy to run on as a candidate. Having good moral and familial values is a very desirable trait in a political candidate. I don't think Harris Davila needed to misrepresent herself to let the voters know that she represents those ethics. She could have stood with her parents and said that she wouldn't be the woman she was today without the strong moral upbringing she received from her parents. It would have even been comforting for her to say that she wanted to protect and keep the kids of America safe even though her husband and she do not have children yet.
