How Bad Are Texas Winter Blackouts Compared To Other States In Nation?
The Texas Power Grid is something that many worry about in the state. Every day it feels like there's new report about the conditions of the grid itself. So, many people in the state wonder when bad weather comes if the grid will hold through it.
Thanks to constant data analysis, many are able to see if the grid is set to go through a rough situation. But also through the data, we're able to see when the grid is having the most problems in certain weather events.
For the season of winter, the Lone Star State has a lot to work on, as the data is not encouraging.
What Did Data About Winter Blackouts In Texas Show?
To find out the answer, Utilities Now provided the data. They used three major factors to determine overall rankings for every state in the nation:
- Average Winter Temps
- Total Duration Of Grid Interruptions
- Total Number Of Blackouts
So overall for Texas, Average Winter Temps totaled out to 58 degrees, 80 total blackouts, and the total duration of interruptions being a staggering 56 hours, where did Texas rank overall? The answer isn't what many want to hear.
What Was Texas' Total Score?
With a score of 77.32, Texas ranked as the number one worst state in the nation for Winter blackouts. In addition, as stated by Utilities Now: "Nearly 1 in 5 Texans are not financially prepared to handle the impact of a prolonged power outage."
So, it looks like Texas has their work cut out for them regarding winter blackouts in the state.
