Some of us in the Killeen, Texas area are just trying to put our houses, property, and streets back together after the winter freeze we witnessed last week. I’m all for having a little bit of snow, especially during the wintertime, but ice storms are dangerous here in Central Texas.

I hear and read social media posts from people who were totally unprepared and had a hard time of it. Will you be one of them next time?

According to 30 years worth of statistics examined by KXAN in Austin, the last freeze of the winter season typically happens the day after Valentine's Day. That's not to say it will happen, or that it will be a deep freeze, but it shows that the potential is still there even that far into the month.

If you found yourself scraping ice off your windshield with an old credit card or trying to drive to work with only a small hole in the ice to see through, that should be a wakeup call.

Fortunately, it looks like we're mostly just going to have some high rain chances in coming day. That's according to our news and weather partners at KWTX.

Still, it never hurts to sit down, think about what you were without when we experienced that last freeze, and put together a list of things you need for next time.

I recommend putting together a Google Doc or other shareable document that you and family members you share with can update and collaborate on. List things you know you'll need like an ice scraper, de-icing spray, battery backups, extra food that doesn't require electricity to prepare, and even a space for typically outdoor pets to hang out in when you bring them inside from the cold.

You know this is going to happen every year, so be smart and put together supplies now.

Mark your calendar for April too, by the way. That's when Texas has its Emergency Supply Tax Free Holiday.
