Killeen Celebrates After Middle Schooler Qualifies for Junior Olympics

Congratulations are most definitely for Killeen Middle School student Sophia Adams. According to KWTX, Sophia, an 11-year-old sixth grader at Nolan Middle School, placed 10th in the nation last fall. Because of that accomplishment, she is headed to Iowa to compete in the Junior Olympics.

Fingers crossed for Sophia as she looks to finish in the top five while competing against athletes from across the country in the track and field event known as race walking. Sophia's mother said, "She always runs on the first day of the event. She does the 1,500-meter race walk, so she's pretty excited about it. She went on to say that Sophia is currently undefeated, adding, "We hope to keep the momentum going."

Sophia's mother also said the event is extremely beneficial for her, not only because she gets to meet new people, but because she gets to go out, enjoy herself, and do something she loves while connecting with athletes from around the country.

Precious Jones, Sophia's mom, also said, "She gets on that track and morphs into someone else. It's a million-dollar smile that you can never duplicate. Not only that, but it boosts her confidence."
