The well-known and historic Hotel 1928 in Waco is making headlines once again, but not because of its rich history. According to KWTX, Sarah Scranton, a former hotel employee, is now facing felony charges.

What Is Sarah Scranton Charged With?

Police say Scranton entered a restricted area of the hotel and allegedly threatened workers with a butcher knife. She was arrested by Waco police and is charged with second-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

What Did The Affidavit Say?

According to the affidavit for the arrest warrant obtained by KWTX, officers responded to a civil disturbance call at Hotel 1928, located at 701 Washington Ave. Police say Scranton, who previously worked at the hotel, appeared to be under the influence of pills or alcohol when she arrived. She allegedly entered a restricted employee area and pulled a butcher knife from her purse, according to the hotel manager.

Why Did Sarah Scranton Have A Knife In Her Purse?

A staff member told police he saw Scranton near the hotel's liquor storage area. He said she called him over and then allegedly began waving the knife. According to the affidavit, Scranton told the employee she carried the knife because she was "a pretty white female" who needed protection. Police said Scranton later repeated that statement to officers, explaining that she carried the knife for protection because she was "a pretty white female." She was booked into the McLennan County Jail and has since been released on bond.
