College Station is about to install a brand new supercomputer that they hope will thrust them forward in the era of AI advanced technologies. That's pretty neat!

Texas A&M's New Supercomputing Upgrades

In a recent press release from the university, Texas A&M has announced that they have entered into an agreement with World Wide Technologies Inc. to acquire the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD with DGX H200 systems.

Still with me? Good, because I feel like I just spoke ancient Arabic for a second there. The bottom line is that this will end up costing the university a whopping $45 million in investments.

The release includes how critical this move is in Texas A&M's technological success:

This investment will make Texas A&M one of the world's premier destinations for students and faculty looking to develop state-of-the-art AI skills and conduct cutting-edge research.

Some initiatives that are expected to be improved include the following:

  • Machine learning
  • Generative AI applications
  • Graphics rendering
  • Scientific simulations

"AI supercomputers enable researchers to create innovative solutions to complex global challenges," Director of Higher Education and Research Computing at NVIDIA Jack Wells added. "Texas A&M's new DGX SuperPOD will help transform the university into a national AI hub."

Supercomputers Across the World

This decision from Texas A&M to hop on the supercomputer bandwagon is just the latest in an ongoing trend. In fact, according to NVIDIA themselves, some highlighted instances include the UC Berkely campus who adopted the world's fifth-fastest system at 6,144 A100 GPUs.

Even looking across the pond, Cambridge University has begun their supercomputer journey already, along with the University of Edinburgh and even Linkoping University which houses Sweden's largest supercomputer.
