It's a rare sight getting to see the roof open at a Texas Rangers game and if you're expecting open for the All Star Game. It probably won't happen.

The Texas Rangers Have Only Had the Roof Open for Just Over 60 Games

Since opening in 2020, Globe Life Field has had their roof open for 57 games since the end of the 2023 season. One of those would actually be a World Series game last season and many fans were wondering why the roof was not open for the Home Run Derby last night. Well, several factors go into opening the roof and here is what we know.

Rain in the Forecast

Obviously the biggest factor is rain. If a potential rain storm pops up, it takes twelve minutes for the roof to close. You don't really want to have a rain delay in a retractable roof stadium as you had in the old stadium pictured above. The Rangers actually had this happen on Opening Day 2023 against the Phillies. Where the game started with the roof open, then had to be shut in the fourth inning due to a storm rolling in.

Temperature

Anybody who went to a day game in any of the old Texas Rangers stadiums is thankful for the roof and air conditioning at Globe Life Field. Looks like the temperature for game time needs to somewhere between 65-80 degrees. Any thing higher or lower, the roof stays closed.

Humidity

One factor that people often forget about is the humidity. If the temperature is in that ideal mid 70's range for a Rangers game, but the humidity is above 50%. The roof will also stay closed. A lot of factors have to go to experience an open air Globe Life Field. With a high of 103 in Arlington today, it's safe to say the All Star Game will be indoors.
