This Month, A Self-Driving Semi Will Hit The Road In Texas.
You read that right. According to reports, this is the year that fully self-driving semis will be on the highway in the Lone Star State. The goal with the trucks is supposedly not to have a human driver who is there "just in case" but to have a fully autonomous tractor-trailer hauling a load.

I'm not going to lie, big trucks make me nervous 100% of the time. It usually has very little to do with the driver of the semi but everything to do with other people or the weather. I'm not sure how I'm going to feel looking in the window and not seeing anyone there.
It seems wild to me. The trial run starts with just one driverless semi. Whether or not we see more depends on how that one does.

We've seen reports of, and I even know people who have taken rides from, driverless taxis. While the idea of a vehicle driving itself seems terrifying to some of us, to those supportive of the technology, it's the future, plain and simple.

They claim that self-driving vehicles are by and large safer than vehicles piloted by humans. The technology can't be distracted, and doesn't get tired or inebriated.
