Shopping at the outlets in Round Rock is a pastime favorite for Central Texans, and I'd never guess that Ikea loves us just as much as we love them.

According to a press release from Ikea, the mega retailer decided to reimburse the State of Texas for funds issued to Ikea workers who were furloughed due to the pandemic of COVID-19.

So just how much is Ikea handing over? $4,900,125! Again, that's the exact amount  of money Texas paid to IKEA US retail workers as unemployment insurance earlier this year. Ikea states that they're simply "paying it forward."

But again, a huge retailer like Ikea could simply have re-opened and thought nothing about the workers who were laid off and the state of the economy. Yet they did the opposite and surprised us all. I've definitely got to give Ikea props!

Governor Abbott will ultimately decide what to do with the funds, but Ikea has expressed that they would like to see the money benefit the public. While this pandemic has been tough on everyone, it has made the positives in life mean that much more.
