UPDATE: Police have released Frederick Banks and taken his twin bother, Dederick Banks, into custody. Dederick is suspected in this shooting, as well as a shooting that left a man injured at Club Heavy in Temple June 7th.


Temple police have identified a man suspected of injuring two people with gunfire Tuesday night.

38-year-old Frederick Banks of Temple was booked into the Bell County Jail at 11:19 PM Tuesday. Records indicate he was charged with a third degree felony, but a specific charge was not listed Wednesday morning, nor had bond been set.

Police responded to a shooting at a residence in the 500 block of South 16th Street around 7:34 PM Tuesday. A man and woman who had been shot were transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in stable condition. Their identities were not released.

The incident remained under investigation Wednesday morning.

Tuesday's shooting was the fourth in Temple since early Sunday morning.

A man was injured by gunfire near Club Heavy at 806 French Avenue shortly before 1:40 AM Sunday. He was transported to Scott & White with serious injuries.

About an hour later, police responded to a shots fired report in the 800 block of North Main Street. A residence there had been damaged by gunfire, but no injuries were reported.

Around 9:15 PM Sunday, police were dispatched to the Village at Meadowbend Apartments, 2787 Martin Luther King Junior Drive. There, they met a man in the parking lot who'd been injured by gunfire. He was taken to Scott & White with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
