Police evacuated multiple Killeen neighborhoods last week after it was learned that 5 Fort Hood soldiers had taken ammunition to their off-post residences.

KWTX News 10 reports the soldiers were in 'military control' as of Monday morning.

Now, the ammunition removed from post was training ammunition which is different than the high explosive ordinance used in actual combat according to a statement released by Fort Hood officials. The post said, "They took the ordnance from a live-fire training exercise that was conducted at Fort Hood, April 18, and the soldiers were not authorized to remove the ordinance from the post. All missing ordnance has been recovered."

The incident is now being investigated by the Army's Criminal Investigation Command. Neighborhoods on the Northwest side of Killeen saw the most activity on Friday evening of last week. Police received assistance from the Fort Hood Criminal Investigation Division. They helped track down several pieces of ordnance stored in different homes throughout the city.

The neighborhoods involved in the evacuations included Splawn Ranch Road, Hunt Drive, Transit Drive, and Carol Way. Officials began to evacuate neighborhoods around 7 pm on Friday. Most people were able to go back home by 9 pm.
