A dog was fatally shot and two more were taken into Animal Services custody Wednesday after two of the animals reportedly attacked two men at Jones Park in Temple.

Officers reported to the park at 1102 West Avenue H around 7:50 AM and spotted a man being attacked by two dogs. A third dog was nearby, but didn't appear to be attacking the man. Officers observed that a second man was on the ground nearby suffering from dog bites.

According to police, officers were unable to get the dogs to stop attacking the man. An officer fired a round that struck and killed one of the dogs, causing the other two dogs to run away.

Both men suffered extensive dog bites and were treated at the scene before being transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. No other injuries were reported.

The owner of the dogs was at the scene and managed to get the other two dogs into her vehicle, where they were contained until Animal Services arrived and took them into custody.

Police said charges are pending against the dog owner.
