Central Texas Boy Laid to Rest in Front of Hundreds

News 10 is reporting that the Goldthwaite Elementary School first-grader, who died last Friday because of an aggressive form of brain cancer, was laid to rest in front of over 500 people on Wednesday at the Central Texas town’s First Baptist Church.

"Luke was a blessing to our family during a real difficult time in our lives,” said the boy’s mother, Melissa Hamilton

Luke's father is a Killeen firefighter and his station made Luke an honorary member of the station before his death. They awarded him badge  No. 1000 as well as various other firefighter clothing and gear.

“It was amazing that my second family, all these firefighters were here for us today,” said Nick Hamilton, Luke’s Dad.

All across Killeen, local residents heard about Luke's fight with cancer and helped raise money for the battle.

According to KWTX, "Friends, neighbors and complete strangers in Goldthwaite set up donation buckets around town, sold T-shirts, and organized online fundraisers and auctions. At one Goldthwaite High School football game, fans of both teams passed the hat and raised $3,000 in only one night for Luke."
