In the wake of the Sutherland Springs church shooting, Texas lawmakers are reminding the public that a law passed in September allows churches to have armed volunteers perform security functions.

The Killeen Daily Herald reports that the author of the law says most churches are not aware that armed guards are a legal option in the state of Texas.

Representative Matt Rinaldi says it's important to get the word out that the law has changed and that it's legal for licensed individuals who carry to coordinate security. The new law allows those who do carry legally to volunteer to provide security. This allows churches to avoid the cost of a $400 'letter of authority' from the state to create volunteer security teams.

Let's put it to a simple up or down poll. Let us know if the new law is something that makes you feel safer, or if it does not. When we head to church on Sunday, guns are usually the last thing on most peoples minds. The tragedy at Sutherland Springs has changed this. It is at least a question that is on a lot of people's minds.
